It’s a beautiful world we live in, a sweet romantic place. One of our passions is ensuring the continuation of delicate world cultures. We have been gifted with cultural partners to help us achieve this. These partners help to raise awareness surounding indigeneous peoples and their ways of life. As we look to coffee producing nations, we see these cultures often in jeopardy. We hope our efforts in continued awareness, cultural sustainabilty and buying coffee plantation direct will make lasting positive impressions on those who we touch as suppliers, our team and those who we serve. We are all one.
FAIR TRADE: We have looked long and hard at Fair Trade as a concept and found, by us purchasing directly from countries of origin, we can make a deeper impact. We support Fair Trade but seek to make a larger difference. Going direct, for exceptional single estate coffees usually means raw products cost more than TWICE that of the Fair Trade rate. Since it is direct, their are NO middle men involved. All the funds stay in the plantation responsible for producing the coffee. They are directly rewarded for an exceptional job.
Going direct means we will physically visit the origin and determine first of all if the coffee is truly exceptional. Then we assess the living conditions of their employess. Are they compensated at least at a living wage whithin their country? Do they have access to medical or other life giving and enriching programs? We then will look at their agricultural practices: Is it ORGANIC? Is it SUSTAINABLE? Do they truly make efforts to be stewards of the soil and environment?
Our deepest relationship is in Guatemala. We buy direct from the Martinez family in Huehuetenengo. Their exceptional plantation is Finca Vista Hermosa. Instead of you reading about it here, go to the ORIGIN and learn for yourself. Please visit their website and explore their world, and before you leave purchase some of this amazing coffee to ensure the quality of their lives and savor the fruit of their labour. You can purchase online or in our cafes.
We welcome your comments on how we can be better stewards of our community.
